Hall of Fame Mission


The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Hall of Fame Commission is a non- profit organization established for the specific purpose of honoring those student- athletes, coaches, and administrators who have brought credit and fame to their institution through their athletic participation as student-athletes or as non-athletes. The name of the body shall be the SWAC Hall of Fame Commission.
 
Hall of Fame Standard Nominees
 
The Selection Committee will be comprised of twelve (12) faculty or staff person from each of the member institutions. The primary duty of the Selection Committee will be to nominate individuals for induction into the Hall of Fame from 1972 to present (eight years must have elapsed since the completion of college eligibility). The nominee eligibility periods shall advance in four-year intervals, with each category extended by two years at the time of rotation.

The next adjustment will take place in 2028. The schedule is as follows:

2028: 1975-Present
2032: 1977-Present
2036: 1979-Present

 
Hall of Fame Legend Nominees
 
The Selection Committee will be comprised of ten (10) at large members. This Hall of Fame Committee should keep in mind the contributions of individuals from early years of the Conference, including individuals from former Conference members, who have been overlooked for induction in previous years.
 
Special attention should be focused on individuals who made significant contributions to the Conference and to college athletics during the Conference’s first 52 years of existence (1920-1972). At large committee members are entrusted with the responsibility of nominating such individuals on an annual basis. The nominee eligibility periods shall advance in four-year intervals, with each category extended by two years at the time of rotation.

The next adjustment will take place in 2028. The schedule is as follows:

2028: 1920-1974
2032: 1920-1976
2036: 1920-1978


Hall of Fame Contributor Nominees
 
The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Hall of Fame Contributor is an individual who has made an outstanding impact within the Southwestern Athletic Conference. This individual will be acknowledged for their dedication, commitment, and service to the overall mission of the Conference office, its’ member institutions and student-athletes. These individuals are full members of the Hall of Fame. Contributors will garner all rights and privileges as the regular Hall of Fame inductees. The Selection Committee shall follow the criteria below:
 
Each committee member may nominate one individual.
 
Nominee must have made significant and/or long-term contributions to the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
 
Nominees must have established a personable reputation for character and citizenship that reflects favorably upon his or her university and the Conference.

A candidate can be chosen posthumously.
 
There shall be no more than (1) contributor member inducted each year into the SWAC Hall of Fame.
 
NOTE: There shall be no more than (9) members inducted each year into the SWAC Hall of Fame: (3) nominees from 1920-1970 (Legends), (5) nominees from 1971- present (eight years must have elapsed since the completion of college eligibility) and (1) contributor nominee.

ALL Nominees must receive at least 60% of the votes to be inducted.
