  • Jim Hines was a legendary sprinter from Texas Southern University in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), known for his historic performance at the 1968 Olympics where he won gold in the 100 m—becoming the first man to officially break the 10-second barrier—and anchored the U.S. 4 × 100 m relay team to a gold medal and world record. His outstanding achievements at both the collegiate and Olympic levels earned him induction into the SWAC Hall of Fame in 1999.
