  • Jerome Barkum was a standout wide receiver at Jackson State University, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
  • Born on July 18, 1950, in Gulfport, Mississippi, Barkum was selected as a Little All-America player in 1971 for his outstanding performance at Jackson State.
  • He was later drafted ninth overall in the 1972 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, where he played for 12 seasons as both a wide receiver and tight end, recording 326 receptions, 4,789 yards, and 40 touchdowns.
  • He is recognized as a Jackson State University Hall of Fame inductee, honoring his legacy as one of the school’s greatest football players and a significant figure in HBCU athletic history.
