  • James Hunter was a standout cornerback at Grambling State University in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), earning three-time All-SWAC honors and finishing his collegiate career with 26 interceptions, ranking second all-time at Grambling and in the SWAC.
  • He was selected 10th overall in the 1976 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions and went on to record 27 career interceptions in seven seasons, leading the Lions in interceptions three times.
  • In recognition of his collegiate success and lasting impact on the conference, Hunter was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame in 1999.
