  • Mel Blount (born March 10, 1948, in Delray, Georgia) is a former American professional football player who played as a cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL) from 1970 to 1983.
  • He was a key member of the Steelers’ “Steel Curtain” defense, helping the team win four Super Bowl titles (IX, X, XIII, XIV).
  • Blount was a five-time First-Team All-Pro, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and was selected to the Pro Bowl 15 times. Known for his physical style of play and exceptional coverage skills, he was instrumental in the NFL instituting the “Mel Blount Rule,” which limited contact by defensive backs beyond five yards from the line of scrimmage.
  • Blount was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989 and remains widely regarded as one of the greatest cornerbacks in NFL history.
