Early Life & Collegiate Athletics
  • Alice Jackson attended Grambling State University on a track scholarship.
  • Initially she tried other sports but ended up focusing on track, where she developed into a standout sprinter.
  • During her time at GSU she competed in the sprinting events and relays, anchoring the 4×400 m for her school in certain championship meets.
  • For example, at the 1977 SWAC Championships she received the baton in the 4×400 when the team was in 6th place and “burned” through to a first-place finish according to a GSU document.
  • She was selected as “Miss Bayou Classic” and later elected by the student body as “Miss Grambling State University.”
International & Athletic Achievements
  • Jackson qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in her senior year at GSU, but the U.S. boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympics prevented her from competing at that event.
  • She represented the U.S. in relay events at the 1983 Pan American Games (Caracas, Venezuela):
    • In the Women’s 4×100 m relay, she ran for the U.S. team that won gold with a time of 43.21 s.
    • In the Women’s 4×400 m relay, she again ran for the U.S. team which won gold with a time of 3:29.97.
    • Post-collegiately, she competed in international meets (in Japan, Israel, Jamaica, Bahamas) under a Nike sponsorship.
    • She held the U.S. indoor record for the 300 m sprint until 2009.
