  • C.D. Henry served as chairman of the College of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Department at Grambling State University from 1958 to 1974, and from 1968 to 1973 acted as executive officer and secretary-statistician for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
  • He became the first African-American assistant commissioner of a major athletic conference when he joined the Big Ten in 1974. In honor of his contributions to SWAC athletics, the conference’s annual award for the top men’s program—the C.D. Henry Award—is named after him.
