  • Roynell Young was a standout cornerback at Alcorn State University in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), where he finished his collegiate career with 20 interceptions, 144 tackles, and 48 pass deflections, helping the Braves capture the 1979 SWAC championship with a defense that allowed only 108.0 total yards per game. He was selected 23rd overall in the 1980 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, becoming the first Alcorn player ever drafted in the first round.
  • In recognition of his outstanding collegiate achievements and lasting impact on SWAC football, Young was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame in 2017.
