  • Bertha Hardy-Smith was an outstanding women’s basketball player at Jackson State University in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), where she became the school’s all-time leading scorer (2,030 points) when she graduated, was named team MVP twice (1975 & 1979), earned four-time All-America honors, and helped lead her team to NAIA national championships in 1978 and 1979 (earning NAIA MVP in 1979).
  • She went on to play professionally for the New Orleans Pride in the Women’s Basketball League and was honored with All-Pro status.
  • Her achievements were formally recognized when she was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame.
