  • Bennie Swain was a standout basketball player at Texas Southern University in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), where he led the nation in scoring during the 1957-58 season and established himself as one of the conference’s all-time top scorers.
  • Following his collegiate career, Swain was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 7th overall pick in the 1958 NBA Draft and helped the team win the 1959 NBA Championship. In recognition of his exceptional achievements and lasting impact on SWAC basketball, Bennie Swain was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame in 1996.
