In his freshman season (1982) he completed 66 of 151 passes for 804 yards in 10 games and scored two rushing touchdowns. In 1983 he threw for over 1,400 yards and 13 touchdowns. In 1984, regarded as his best season: he completed 95 of 187 passes for 1,523 yards and 16 touchdowns; rushed for 96 yards and 3 touchdowns; led the Braves to a 9-0 regular season before losing in the Division I-AA playoffs; the Braves went 7-0 in SWAC play, averaging 37.5 points per game. He was named to the All-SWAC 2nd Team. In his senior year he again threw for over 1,500 yards and 13 touchdowns and earned All-SWAC 2nd Team honors. He ranks 3rd in Alcorn State’s all-time career passing yards list (5,474 yards), 3rd in completions (366), and 4th in passing touchdowns (42).
