Known for his scoring and rebounding ability, Smith helped lead Alcorn to multiple conference victories before being selected in the first round of the 1980 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors. He went on to enjoy a 13-season professional career in the NBA and is celebrated as one of the greatest basketball players to emerge from the SWAC.
