Collegiate & athletic achievements
  • Judy was recruited to Texas Southern University (TSU) on an athletic scholarship in 1966 and was among the founding members (one of six) of the “Tigerettes” — the school’s women’s track team.
  • While at TSU, she competed in sprint and hurdle events (notably the 80-meter hurdles) and on relay teams (4×100, sprint-medley) that set records.
  • She achieved indoor NAIA champion status in the 60-yard dash and 80-meter hurdles.
  • In 1968, she was ranked third in the U.S. in the 80 m hurdles, and she tied the American record with 10.5 seconds.
  • She qualified for the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City in the 80 m hurdles.
  • At the Olympics: according to Olympedia, she competed in the 80 m hurdles but did not medal.
Honors & recognition
  • Judy Dyer was the first female athlete inducted into the TSU Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.
  • She was also inducted into the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Hall of Fame and local halls (such as the Shawnee County Sports Hall of Fame in Kansas) for her contributions.
