  • Willis Reed was a dominant basketball player at Grambling State University in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), where he earned All-SWAC and All-American honors while leading the Tigers to multiple conference championships and a 1961 NAIA national title.
  • After graduating in 1964, he went on to a Hall of Fame NBA career with the New York Knicks, becoming a two-time NBA Champion, seven-time All-Star, and the 1970 NBA MVP.
  • Reed is forever remembered for his iconic return in Game 7 of the 1970 NBA Finals, which helped lift the Knicks to victory.
  • In recognition of his extraordinary collegiate success and his lasting impact on SWAC athletics, Willis Reed was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame.
