Wright was a legendary coach at Prairie View A&M University in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), where over more than four decades he led the track & field and cross-country programs to two NAIA Indoor titles, one NAIA Outdoor title, and five SWAC championships. He also served as the Panthers’ head football coach and athletic director, guiding teams through highs and lows and even helping the U.S. national track team as an assistant coach in the 1972 Olympics. In recognition of his extraordinary achievements and lasting impact on SWAC athletics, Wright was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame in 1994.
