Background & Role at UAPB

?Clemmons served the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in its athletics department for many decades. According to the UAPB athletics website, the “H.O. Clemmons Arena” is named for him, and the description says he “dedicated 40 years as an assistant professor in the Department of Health Physical Education and Recreation and also played a significant role in UAPB's return to the Southwestern Athletic Conference.”
He was head men’s basketball coach for the Golden Lions (UAPB) for 20 years, until 1977.
He became Athletic Director at UAPB in 1992.
He is credited with the school’s return to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in 1998 after more than 20 years in another affiliation.

Legacy & Recognition

The athletics facility at UAPB is named in his honor: H.O. Clemmons Arena, a 4,100-seat multi-purpose arena on campus, home to the men’s and women’s basketball teams and the women’s volleyball team.
