Background & College Basketball Career
  • Mason played for University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (formerly Arkansas AM&N College) from 1956 to 1960.
  • He was a shooting guard, approximately 6-foot tall, known for scoring and tenacious defense.
  • In his senior season (1959-60), he averaged 25.2 points per game and led the conference (Southwestern Athletic Conference) in scoring
  • His jersey number was 42, chosen in honor of Jackie Robinson.
Post-College Career & Service
  • After college and service in the United States Air Force, Mason held various roles: he spent time in the music/recording industry (as a store owner and producer) in the San Francisco Bay area.
  • He also coached high school basketball and track, and taught business management.  
  • In public service, he served as Vice Mayor of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas.  
  • Professionally in academia, he worked at University of Arkansas at Little Rock as Director of the Cooperative Education Internship & Placement office.
