Background & College Basketball Career

Mason played for University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (formerly Arkansas AM&N College) from 1956 to 1960.
He was a shooting guard, approximately 6-foot tall, known for scoring and tenacious defense.
In his senior season (1959-60), he averaged 25.2 points per game and led the conference (Southwestern Athletic Conference) in scoring
His jersey number was 42, chosen in honor of Jackie Robinson.

Post-College Career & Service

After college and service in the United States Air Force, Mason held various roles: he spent time in the music/recording industry (as a store owner and producer) in the San Francisco Bay area.
He also coached high school basketball and track, and taught business management.
In public service, he served as Vice Mayor of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Professionally in academia, he worked at University of Arkansas at Little Rock as Director of the Cooperative Education Internship & Placement office.
