Charles King Barron’s involvement in SWAC athletics was primarily as a coach rather than as a competing athlete.
He served as an assistant coach for the men’s track & field team at Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU), a SWAC member, working under Head Coach William Brown.
During his tenure, he contributed to the team’s successes, including NAIA championships in the early 1980s, and helped guide athletes through MVSU’s transition into NCAA Division I competition.
Barron’s contributions to SWAC sports were recognized with his induction into the SWAC Hall of Fame in 1996, reflecting his lasting impact on the conference’s track and field program.
