  • Marshall L. Bell was a standout athlete and influential coach in collegiate track and field.
  • He attended Mississippi Valley State University (then Mississippi Vocational College), a SWAC member, where he lettered four years in track and field and three years in football, graduating in 1964

After earning a master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1970, Bell went on to build and lead the Southern Miss track and field program from the late 1970s through the 1990s, guiding the men’s team to back-to-back Metro Conference championships and developing the women’s program into a competitive squad.
