  • He attended TSU: according to one source, he was a 1947 graduate of Texas Southern University.
  • He coached TSU’s men’s tennis team from about 1966 to 1980, capturing multiple championships.  
  • Under his coaching:
    • He won numerous Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships.
    • He secured eight NAIA District titles between 1971 and 1979.
    • He was named NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1975.
  • Beyond sports, Provost was a professional photographer:
    • He was born December 27, 1921, in Dayton, Texas; served in the U.S. Navy during WWII (1944–45).
    • After the war he studied photography further and in 1949 opened his own photography studio.
    • His photographic work includes portraits of the Houston African American community and documentation in the civil-rights era.
