According to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), during his time at PVAMU: He won three SWAC Tennis Championships in 1958, 1960 and 1961. He also won three SWAC doubles championships in 1958, 1959 and 1960. He captured the A.T.A. National Intercollegiate Singles Championship in 1960. He was named to the All-SWAC team from 1957–1960. He was voted Most Outstanding Athlete at PVAMU in 1961. He holds the record for “Most Consecutive Singles Won” with 20 (in 1957). At PVAMU he also played men’s basketball as a guard while being an honor student.
