Conerly Class Induction 2016 Sport(s) Men's Basketball Alcorn State Background & Career Highlights Conerly is a native of Columbia, Mississippi, and played for the Alcorn State men’s basketball team from 1964 to 1968. After his playing years, he served as an assistant coach for the Braves from 1968 to 1972. During his coaching tenure—much of which overlapped with the early rise of the program under coach Davey Whitney—Alcorn State won two regular-season conference titles in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Conerly has been recognized in the university’s athletic Hall of Fame: He was inducted into the Alcorn State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002. He was also inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame in 2016.
