Background & Career Highlights
  • Conerly is a native of Columbia, Mississippi, and played for the Alcorn State men’s basketball team from 1964 to 1968.
  • After his playing years, he served as an assistant coach for the Braves from 1968 to 1972.
  • During his coaching tenure—much of which overlapped with the early rise of the program under coach Davey Whitney—Alcorn State won two regular-season conference titles in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
  • Conerly has been recognized in the university’s athletic Hall of Fame: He was inducted into the Alcorn State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002.
  • He was also inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame in 2016.
