He attended high school at Morehouse (in Bastrop, Louisiana) where he played multiple sports. He then enrolled at Southern University in Baton Rouge from 1961-65. During his college career at Southern: He scored 2,458 points in 104 games (averaging about 23.7 ppg). He also grabbed about 1,483 rebounds (˜14.7 rpg) there. He was a multiple-time All-SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) selection and an NAIA All-American. In recognition of his college accomplishments, his jersey #41 was retired by Southern in 2012. Professional Career Love was selected by the Cincinnati Royals in the 4th round of the 1965 NBA Draft. He eventually played in the NBA for several teams, most notably the Chicago Bulls: He played for the Bulls from 1968 to 1976, during which time he became one of the team’s leading scorers. He was a three-time NBA All-Star. He was also named to the All-NBA Second Team twice, and the NBA All-Defensive Second Team three times. After his playing career ended, Love went into roles as a community ambassador, motivational speaker, and executive.
