Early Life & College
  • Bob Love was born December 8, 1942, in Bastrop, Louisiana.
  • He attended high school at Morehouse (in Bastrop, Louisiana) where he played multiple sports.
  • He then enrolled at Southern University in Baton Rouge from 1961-65.
  • During his college career at Southern:
    • He scored 2,458 points in 104 games (averaging about 23.7 ppg).
    • He also grabbed about 1,483 rebounds (˜14.7 rpg) there.
    • He was a multiple-time All-SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) selection and an NAIA All-American.
  • In recognition of his college accomplishments, his jersey #41 was retired by Southern in 2012.
Professional Career
  • Love was selected by the Cincinnati Royals in the 4th round of the 1965 NBA Draft.
  • He eventually played in the NBA for several teams, most notably the Chicago Bulls:
    • He played for the Bulls from 1968 to 1976, during which time he became one of the team’s leading scorers.
    • He was a three-time NBA All-Star.
    • He was also named to the All-NBA Second Team twice, and the NBA All-Defensive Second Team three times.
  • After his playing career ended, Love went into roles as a community ambassador, motivational speaker, and executive.
