  • Emanuel F. Barnes has been a long-standing and deeply influential figure at Alcorn State University, where he began serving in 1975 and held numerous key roles including admissions counselor, recruiter, dean and associate dean of students, director of admissions & recruiting, residence hall director, and eventually Deputy Provost for Student Services and Vice President for Student Affairs.
  • Beyond his administrative contributions, Barnes became known to fans as the “Voice of the Braves,” serving as the public-address announcer for Alcorn’s basketball games for about 47 years and football games for 30 years, where his signature lines like “It’s another Braves first down” and “It’s SWAC Time Baby” became part of the game-day experience.
  • In recognition of his sustained service to both Alcorn State and the Southwestern Athletic Conference, Barnes was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame in 2016.
