  • His first head-coaching job was at Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) from 1961–1965, where he also served as athletic director.
  • After MVSU, he was an assistant coach under legendary coach Eddie Robinson at Grambling State University from 1966-1973.
  • He then served as head coach at Howard University from 1974-1978 and at Fort Valley State University (GA) from 1979-1985 and again 1987-1996.
  • At Fort Valley State he was also athletics director for many years and held prominent committee and leadership roles in Division II athletics
