SWAC Cross Country Weekly Awards: Sept. 9

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama A&M’s Laura Avila and Bethune-Cookman’s Andrew Kiplagat its Cross Country Runners of the Week for their outstanding performances this past week.
 
Women’s Cross Country Runner/Newcomer of the Week
Avila posted a top-15 finish at the Belmont Opener as she ran the 5000m course in 19:03.8 to place 14th.
 
Men’s Cross Country Runner/Newcomer of the Week
Kiplagat turned in a winning time of 24:20.2 in the men's 8K race, claiming the individual medal by six seconds over Siyabonga Mokgothu of Florida Gulf Coast, who finished second in a time of 24:46.5.
