BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Southern’s J'Lea Berry, Gia Johnson and Ava Droze along with Alabama State’s Serenity Safeeullah its Soccer Players of the Week for their outstanding performances this past week.
Offensive Player of the Week
Southern’s Berry scored the Jags' game winning goal off an assist from teammate Gia Johnson to help lead Southern to a season opening win over Southern Miss.
Defensive Player of the Week
Southern’s Johnson helped the Jags’ pick up their defensive intensity to hold the Eagles scoreless for ninety minutes.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Jags’ goalkeeper Droze secured three keys saves in the second half of play to help lead Southern to a season opening win over Southern Miss.
Newcomer of the Week
Alabama State’s Safeeullah scored the first goal of her career in her first collegiate match against the University of Mobile in the Hornets' season-opener.
