BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Southern’s Tashina Alase, Sahnya Lathon and Ayanna Hunt for SWAC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Awards.
Track
Alase delivered a dominant showing at the Leon Johnson Invitational, winning the 100-meter hurdles in a personal-best 13.20 seconds. She also placed second in the 200 meters (24.22) and third in the 100 meters (11.82), with her times in the hurdles and 200 marking new personal records.
Field
Lathon was named Field Athlete of the Week following strong performances in both the high jump and triple jump. The senior cleared 1.67 meters (5'5.75'') to win the high jump and recorded a personal-best leap of 12.00 meters (39'4.5'') to finish second in the triple jump.
Newcomer
Hunt, a freshman, earned recognition after competing in the hammer throw, discus and shot put. She placed fourth in the hammer (46.76m | 153'5''), fifth in the discus and sixth in the shot put. Her hammer throw ranks second in the SWAC, while her personal-best discus mark of 47.70 meters (156'6'') leads the conference and ranks 56th in the East Region. Hunt also posted a shotput mark of 11.49 meters (37'8.5''), ranking 12
th in the league.
