BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Bethune-Cookman’s Rosalida Asumwa, Florida A&M’s Alyynah Thomas and Alabama State’s Loris Gueli for SWAC Tennis Weekly Awards.
Women’s Player
Asumwa defeated her opponent in two sets (6-1, 6-1) and also won in doubles with her partner, Maria Romero Vargas (6-2) as the Cats defeated Edward Waters for their first win of the spring season.
Women’s Newcomer
Thomas delivered a strong performance at No. 6 singles, earning a straight-set victory for Florida A&M with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Georgia State’s Defne Erbakan.
Men’s Player/Newcomer
Gueli captured a three-set win at No. Six singles in a 5-2 loss at Middle Tennessee State. He defeated Santiago Lora 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) for ASU's only singles win.
