BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Jackson State’s Isabella Benavides, Victoria Linkovski, and Ching-Chang Chiu along with Florida A&M’s Luiza Eidelvein for SWAC Tennis Weekly Awards.
Women’ Player
Benavides won both her matches against Alabama State this past weekend, winning her doubles match 6-2 and a 7-6, 6-0 victory at number five in singles competition.
Women’s Co-Newcomer
Linkovski won both her matches against Southern, securing doubles point with a 6-4 win and following that up with a hard-fought 7-5 first set at number three, before finishing the match with a 6-2 win. Her performance was pivotal in getting the Lady Tigers their first SWAC win of the season.
Women’s Co-Newcomer
Eidelvein turned in an impressive week for Florida A&M, making an impact on both singles and doubles competition. Partnering with Veronica Rodriguez at No. 2 doubles, Eidelvein helped the Rattlers secure a 6-3 victory over Alcorn State’s Katherine Grados and Natalija Nikolic.
Men’s Player
Chiu went 2-0 against Southern with his first win coming in doubles competition where he and his partner won 6-3 at number one. He secured the Tigers first SWAC win of the season for the Tigers by winning his singles match 6-4, 6-0.
