PVAMU Women's Indoor Track and Field Wins Back-to-Back SWAC Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M Women's Indoor Track and Field program won their second consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship on Friday.
 
Through 17 events scored PVAMU finished with 133 overall points followed by Alcorn State (101), Alabama State (85), Florida A&M (72.5), and Arkansas Pine Bluff (71) to round out the top five team rankings.

Jackson State (44), Bethune-Cookman (41), Southern (40), Texas Southern (35), Grambling State (24), Mississippi Valley State (8.5) and Alabama A&M (6) concluded the meet ranked 6-12 respectively.

After day one of the event was suspended due to adverse weather conditions, day two featured timed finals with Alabama State's 4x400 meter relay team concluding the meet with a first place finish. 

Alcorn State and Prairie View A&M finished the 4x400 meter relay in second and third respectively. 

Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Safiya John (26 points) was tabbed Most Outstanding Field Performer while Alabama State's Kyana Evans (26 points) was named Most Outstanding Track Performer for the event. 

Prairie View A&M head coach Angela Williams was named Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Panthers to back-to-back titles.
