Day Two Results Championship Central
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas- Day two of the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships featured impressive performances on both the sides as multiple champions were crowned heading into the final day of competition.
Grambling State Sharon Labich claimed gold in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase as she earned a total of 10 points for her team. Prairie View A&M’s Mia Heard won the Women’s Long Jump (6.08 m) while Mississippi Valley State’s Tiara DeRosa finished first in the Shot Put (14.29 m).
Women’s highlights from day two also included wins by Southern’s Alexandria McCoy in the Hammer Throw (51.19 m) and Jackson State’s Kymoi Noray (42.48 m) in the Javelin Throw. Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Safiya John won the Women’s Heptathlon while amassing a conference record 5,450 total points.
On the men’s side of the action Jackson State Jallah Gallimah won the Men’s Steeplechase event while Texas Southern’s Kenneth Pree brought home the gold in the Long Jump (7.37 m).
Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Ceasar Kemp continued to dominate the Men’s Shot Put event finishing in first place (14.66 m) while fellow teammate Mykhel Oppon won the Hammer Throw (50.24 m). Texas Southern’s Chadrick Williams finished in first place in the Javelin Throw (52.40 m).
Prairie View A&M’s Sunne Rodriguez-Weems claimed first place in the Men’s Decathlon tallying 6,531 points while also earning 10 points for his team.
