SWAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Honors- April 30

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama A&M’s Akia Slaughter and Texas Southern’s Phylan Perkins its SWAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week and SWAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week for their outstanding performances during competition.

Competing at the N.C. A&T Aggie Classic on April 24, Slaughter delivered two of the Bulldogs five top five finishes. Headlining that effort was a 2-of-23 performance in the 200-meters with a time of 24.30 and 4-of-37 effort in the 100-meters at 12.20.

Perkins posted the No. 2 hammer throw in the SWAC after logging a mark of 164-11 at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet. Her throw was a career-best as she also posted a career-best throw in the shot put at the same meet.
