BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama State’s Halima Barlow its SWAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week and Alabama A&M’s Denise Loney its SWAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for their outstanding performances during competition Jan. 29-31.
Barlow (Atlanta, Ga.) advanced through the 60-meter prelims with a time of 7.66 seconds and finished sixth overall in the event finals as shaved off 0.01 seconds on her to cross the line in a time of 7.65 seconds, the second-fastest time on the team this season. Although she finished sixth overall, she was the top collegiate athlete to cross the line finishing ahead of Louisiana Tech's Claudasha Watson.
Loney (Melbourne, Fla.) repeated her first place performance in the pole vault from a week ago at that very same facility, this time besting a field of 16 other competitors as she cleared the exact same height of 3.50-meters.
