SWAC Baseball Weekly Awards: Apr.7

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama State’s Miguel Oropeza and Jorhan Laboy, Mississippi Valley State’s Tom Early and Isreal Ramos along with Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Zach Wieder for SWAC Baseball Weekly Awards. 
 
Co-Hitter
Oropeza hit .471 over four games, helping the Hornets go 2-2 on the week. He went 8-for-17 at the plate with two doubles, one triple, one home run, and seven RBI. The Aragua, Venezuela, native, went 5-for-6 with two doubles, a home run, three runs scored, and five RBI in a 14-10 win to open the UAPB series. Oropeza went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a double in a 9-4 win in game two. He finished the UAPB series 8-for-14 with six RBI, two doubles, a triple, a home run, and five runs scored. He also filed 1.000 in five field chances.
 
Co-Hitter
Early was named SWAC Co-Hitter of the Week after turning in an impressive all-around performance at the plate. Across four games, he batted .412 (7-for-17) with eight RBI, while recording at least one hit in every contest. He delivered one of his biggest moments in the series finale against Alcorn State, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, highlighted by a clutch bases-clearing triple. Early also posted two multi-hit games, drew two walks, and added a stolen base as he consistently sparked the Delta Devils offensively throughout the week.
 
Pitcher
Laboy went 1-0 on the week, earning the win in the series-clinching game two victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Laboy worked 7.0 innings, allowing one run and scattering seven hits with six strikeouts against one walk on the night. After yielding a run in the third inning, Laboy tossed the next 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball before turning the game over to the bullpen. 
 
Co-Newcomer
Ramos earned SWAC Co-Newcomer of the Week honors after a breakout performance that played a major role in Mississippi Valley State's series win over Alcorn State. He opened the weekend in dominant fashion, going 3-for-5 with four runs scored, six RBI, and two home runs in the series opener, helping fuel Valley's offensive explosion. Ramos continued to make an impact throughout the week with timely hitting, power production, and a steady presence at the plate. His efforts made him one of the conference's top offensive performers and a key contributor to MVSU’s success.
 
Co-Newcomer
Wieder earned weekly recognition after a strong four-game stretch for UAPB, going 8-for-17 (.471) with five runs scored, seven RBI, three doubles, one home run, one walk, and one stolen base against Central Arkansas and Alabama State. He was a major catalyst for the Golden Lions offense, delivering extra-base power and timely production throughout the week.
