BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Jackson State’s Helen Hernandez, Tiara Alvarez, Jhoan Vaquero and Chen Hung-Yu for SWAC Tennis Weekly Awards.
Women’s Player
Hernandez earned the second point with a 6-1, 6-4 victory from number four to help JSU defeat Dillard this past week.
Women’s Newcomer
The first point in the singles competition was awarded to Alvarez in JSU's win over Dillard as she also teamed with Tiara Alvarez to help the Lady Tigers claim the doubles point.
Men’s Player
Vaquero and Federico Pickenstainer defeated their opponents 6-4 to secure the doubles point for the Tigers while a 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 win by Vaquero in a three-set thriller stifled a Dillard rally.
Men’s Newcomer
Hung-Yu was a key contributor for Jackson State as the Tigers defeated Dillard and Mississippi Valley State during this past week of competition.
