BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Texas Southern’s Daeja Holmes, Alcorn State’s Nakia Cheatham and Alabama State’s Shamya Reid for SWAC Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards.
Player
Holmes delivered a dominant, complete performance in Texas Southern’s 72–63 victory over Prairie View A&M. She led all scorers with 34 points, shooting 71 percent from the floor and 71 percent from beyond the arc, while also contributing seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block.
Impact
Cheatham averaged 13.5 points and nine rebounds last week for Alcorn State. She shot 47.8 percent from the floor, including a 33.3 percent mark from beyond the arc.
Newcomer
Reid helped Alabama State to a 2-0 record this past week of competition with wins over Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. She averaged 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals over two games.
