South Carolina led 19–6 after the first quarter and never trailed, then broke the game open with a 32–2 third quarter.
South Carolina shot 54.7 percent from the field while Southern shot 18.5 percent. South Carolina won the rebound battle 57–33, and outscored Southern 62–14 in the paint and had 35 points off turnovers and 20 fast-break points.
Southern’s top scorers were Jocelyn Tate with 10 points, while Jaylia Reed and Olivia Delancy scored 6 each.
South Carolina was led by Joyce Edwards with 27 points and 8 rebounds, Ta’Niya Latson with 17 points and 6 assists and Madina Okot with 15 points and 8 rebounds.
The loss brings a close to a impressive Southern Jaguars season in which the Jaguars won an NCAA Tournament game for the second consecutive season.
