BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Arkansas-Pine Bluff‘s Jailah Pelly and Khaniah Gardner along with Alcorn State’s Nakia Cheatham for SWAC Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards.
Player
Pelly was a force in both UAPB games this past week. In UAPB's 77–54 win over Bethune-Cookman, she scored 12 points and contributed defensively with three steals. In the Golden Lions 63-53 victory against Florida A&M, Pelly led the UAPB with 23 points.
Impact
Cheatham was a huge presence on both ends of the floor for Alcorn State this past week of competition. She averaged a double-double with 14.5 points per game to go along with 12.5 rebounds per game as Alcorn State went 2-0 for the week.
Newcomer
Gardner finished with 15 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field and added seven rebounds against B-CU while anchoring the UAPB interior on both ends. During the Golden Lions game against Florida A&M she finished with a double-double contributing 12 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
