BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Bethune-Cookman’s Jesus Vanegas and Edwin Sanchez along with Southern’s Kameron Byrd and Texas Southern’s Evan Joubert its Baseball Players of the Week for their outstanding performances this past week.
Co-Hitter of the Week
Vanegas continued his hot stretch at the plate this week against USF and UAPB. He collected five hits, six RBI, a double and a home run.
Co-Hitter of the Week
Byrd finished the weekend with six hits along with five RBI during the Jaguars three-game series against Mississippi Valley State.
Pitcher of the Week
Sanchez proved invaluable as a stopper as he turned in seven strong innings of scoreless ball to lead the Wildcats to a 9-0 win over UAPB in the series finale Sunday. He allowed only three baserunners and struck out four batters.
Newcomer of the Week
Joubert went 5-for-11 at the plate with a impressive .454 batting average as he drove in four RBI and scored three runs.
