SWAC Women's Basketball Weekly Awards: Dec. 10

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Southern’s Demya Porter, Southern and Bethune-Cookman’s Sanai Tyler for SWAC Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards. 
 
Player/Impact
Porter shined for the Lady Jaguars during Southern’s upset wins over Arizona and Houston. She led her team with 12.5 points per game during the two non-conference outings.
 
Newcomer 
Tyler had a strong week collecting eight points, a team-high seven rebounds, and two steals against Edward Waters. In a B-CU win over Livingstone, she notched a double-double, with 10 points and 12 rebounds while also adding two assists, a steal, and a block.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) is considered one of the premier HBCU conferences in the country and currently ranks among the elite in the nation in terms of HBCU alumni playing with professional sports teams.
 
Current championship competition offered by the league includes competition for men in Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field and Tennis.

Women’s competition is offered in the sports of Basketball, Bowling, Cross Country, Golf, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field, Soccer, Softball, Tennis and Volleyball.
