BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State’s Caylah Williams, Sarah Portis and Taylor Osborn, Southern’s Nyeemah Prescod-Beckles and Alabama A&M’s Brea Bailey its Soccer Players of the Week for their outstanding performances this past week.
Co-Offensive
Williams scored two goals for JSU against Alabama State to help the Tigers keep a clean conference record so far this season.
Co-Offensive
Prescod-Beckles was the driving force of the Jaguars’ attack, scoring in back-to-back matches. She tallied the equalizer against Alabama State before assisting on the game-winner late in the second half, then added Southern’s lone goal at Alabama A&M.
Defensive
Portis helped JSU's defense by keeping its opponents off the board all weekend. She also registered an assist off Williams' goals against ASU.
Goalkeeper
Osborn finished with weekend with two shutouts against Alabama A&M and Alabama State as the Tigers picked up both wins. Shepicked up a total of 10 saves this weekend.
Newcomer
Bailey played in two matches as Alabama A&M went 1-1 during the week. She recorded one shot on goal, which was the game-winning goal in the 88
th minute as the Bulldogs held off Southern, 2-1, on Sunday.
