BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Alcorn State Braves advanced to the championship game of the 2024 SWAC Women’s Basketball Tournament after claiming a 61-59 win over Grambling State.
Alcorn State was led by Destiny Brown who scored 19 points while also tallying seven rebounds, four steals, and four blocks. Zy’Nia White and Nakia Cheatham scored 12 and 11 points respectively to round out the list of double-digit contributors.
Grambling State was led Kahia Warmsley’s 20 point performance as she shot 7-of-16 from the field. Jazmyne Jackson and Anijah Grant contributed 11 and 10 points respectively.
In a game that was a back-and-forth affair a Tyginae Wright jump shot put Alcorn State ahead for good with two seconds left in regulation.
With the win the Braves will move on to face the winner of the Jackson State versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The SWAC Tournament Women’s Title game will take place on Saturday, March 16 at 4:30 pm CST.
