Jackson State claims 2022 SWAC Women's Basketball Regular Season Title

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Jackson State Lady Tigers clinched the 2022 SWAC Women’s Basketball regular season title with a 87-86 road win over Texas Southern on Saturday as JSU improved to 15-0 in league play.

The title marks back-to-back championships for JSU as the Lady Tigers also won the regular season title following the conclusion of the 2021 season.

The Lady Tigers also clinched the #1 seed at the 2022 SWAC Women’s Basketball Tournament slated to be held March 9-12 at Bartow Arena located in Birmingham.

"I learned that we have depth," said Jackson State head coach Tomeika Reed said following her team’s win at TSU.

"I learned that we have players that are going to show up, and not be afraid. I was really proud to see that. We had some adversities against us, but I saw my team fight through it. They didn't back down and they didn't give up."

Jackson State currently has a 17-6 overall record this season under the direction of Coach Reed. JSU is led by Ameshya Williams-Holliday who currently ranks second in the league in points per game averaging 20.6 points per outing.

The Lady Tigers will look to claim back-to-back tournament titles when JSU returns to Birmingham to participate at the 2022 Cricket SWAC Women’s Basketball Tournament presented by Mountain Dew.
