BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama State’s Trenton Jamison, Alabama A&M’s Jose Figueroa and Grambling State’s Marc Luna its SWAC Baseball Hitter and Co-Pitchers of the Week respectively for their outstanding performances during competition in league play.
Hitter of the Week
Jamison (Atlanta, Ga.) finished the week hitting .769 in three games (all starts) in 13 official at-bats. He finished the week going 10-for-13 with a pair of doubles and a pair of home runs for Alabama State in their series sweep over Mississippi Valley State. He drove in seven runs and scored six more, while slugging 1.385 and having an on-base percentage of .800.
Co-Pitcher of the Week
Figueroa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) delivered a command performance in his one outing this past week against Alcorn State. In that start he threw seven innings, allowing just four hits and no runs, earned or otherwise, while striking out 12 batters and allowing just a pair of walks. That performance led the Bulldogs to a 9-2 win, the first of new head coach Elliott Jones' career, and earned Figueroa the victory.
Co-Pitcher of the Week
Luna (Alvin, Texas) gave up just two earned runs in seven innings of work while generating 13 strikeouts out against Texas Southern’s 29 batters faced as Grambling State won its first game of the season in a 5-4 thriller over Texas Southern in game one of the weekend series.
