Alabama State’s Crawford and Alabama A&M’s Lewis Tabbed for SWAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama State’s Jayla Crawford its SWAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Alabama A&M’s Dariauna Lewis its SWAC Women’s Basketball Impact Player of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played Feb. 27-Mar.1.
 
Crawford (Birmingham, Ala.) finished the week averaging 21 points per game in a pair of wins over Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M to close out the home portion of the regular season schedule for Alabama State. She scored 21 points against Texas Southern, while adding five rebounds and three assists. She scored 21 points versus Prairie View A&M to go along with four rebounds.
 
Lewis (Omaha, Neb.) put up impressive numbers as she averaged 17.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.5 assists over two games while shooting .667 (16-of-24). She opened the week against Prairie View A&M (2/27) with 18 points, 13 rebounds and four assists and four blocks before pulling off another double-double against Texas Southern (3/1). In that contest she finished with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 10 rebounds to go along with two blocks.

 Other notable performances: 
  • Jackson State’s Dayzsha Rogan scored 24 points on four three-pointers made in a 74-48 win over MVSU.
  • Alabama State’s Shmya Ward scored a total of 37 points this week in conference action to close out the home schedule for Alabama State, averaging 18.5 points per game. She also averaged 10 rebounds per game, grabbing a double-double in each of the two games, giving her seven on the season.
