Alabama A&M’s Lewis and Texas Southern’s Bojorquez Tabbed for SWAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama A&M’s Dariauna Lewis its SWAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Texas Southern’s Jenay Bojorquez its SWAC Women’s Basketball Impact Player of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played Feb. 22-25.
 
Lewis (Omaha, Neb.) averaged 24.5 points, 18.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals while shooting .680 (17-of-25) from the field and 789 (15-of-19) at the foul line. She opened the week at Alcorn State (2/22) and delivered a dominant performance with 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting and hauled in 17 boards (six offensive) to go with a pair of blocks in 42 minutes of work. She produced another impressive performance in a midweek game at Southern (2/24), registering 24 points with 19 rebounds (eight offensive) and two steals in a 78-76 victory over the Jaguars.

Bojorquez (Phoenix, Arizona) was a key contributor during the Texas Southern Lady Tigers wins over Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Over the course of that two-game stretch she averaged 17.5 points per game to go along with 5.5 rebounds per game and 4.5 assist per game.  
 
Other notable performances: 
  • Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Maya Peat posted back-to-back double-doubles in three games this week, averaging 11.6 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks. After scoring three points with three rebounds and three blocks Monday at Prairie View A&M, she posted career highs in points (15) and rebounds (13) along with one block, one steal, and one assist Tuesday at PVAMU. In Thursday's game at Texas Southern, Peat had another career high 17 points along with 11 rebounds with two assists and one steal.
  • Texas Southern’s Ataiya Bridges scored career high 29 points against Arkansas-Pine Bluff while averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds in two games as TSU had its first SWAC winning streak this season.
  • Mississippi Valley State’s Zakiya Mahoney posted 14 points and eight rebounds on 50% shooting against Texas Southern on Tuesday. She helped the MVSU move into a tie for the eight spot in the conference standings with a 20 points and seven rebounds performance in MVSU’s win at Prairie View A&M on Thursday night.
