JSU’s Williams and Alcorn State’s Clark Tabbed for SWAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State’s Ameshya Williams its SWAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Alcorn State’s Kirdis Clark its SWAC Women’s Basketball Impact Player of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played Jan. 16-18.
 
Williams (Gulf Port, Miss.) recorded 23 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocked shots during the Lady Tigers 68-44 road win over Texas Southern on Monday. For the week she averaged 15.5 points per game to go along with 10.0 rebounds per game and 2.0 blocks per game. 
 
Clark (Natchez, Miss.) put together a pair of strong performances during the two wins for the Lady Braves this week. In the process, Alcorn State improved to 4-1 in SWAC play, its best start to a conference season since 2006-07. She tallied a total of 28 points on 11-24 shooting from the field, 4-11 from three point range and went 2-2 at the line. To close the week against UAPB, she went for 12 points on 5-14 shooting from the field, 2-5 from three point range and came away with seven steals while also contributing six rebounds.
 
Other notable performances:  
  • Mississippi Valley State’s Mahoney Zakiya recorded 19 points, seven rebounds and one steal against Alcorn State on Saturday. On Monday night against Southern she finished the game with 13 points and five rebounds.
  • Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Khadijah Brown averaged 17.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals in games at Southern and Alcorn State. Brown scored 15 points with eight rebounds against the Jaguars and followed that up with 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds and two steals at Alcorn State.
  • Grambling State’s Candice Parramore led GSU in a Texas road trip sweep over Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M. She scored 15 points in the Lady Tigers win over TSU and subsequently produced a team-high 17 points during GSU’s one point victory over PVAMU.
