WACO, TEXAS | Jackson State made its first appearance in the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Top 25 this week following its win over Southern in its SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) opener.

Jackson State (4-0, 1-0 SWAC) defeated Southern 35-17 and jumped into the top 25 at No. 23 after receiving votes last week.

The top 10 includes Montana State, South Dakota State, Tarleton State, Montana, Stephen F. Austin, Lehigh, North Dakota, Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay, and Youngstown State. They are followed by Illinois State, South Carolina State, Lamar, Idaho State, UC Davis, South Dakota, Richmond, West Florida, Northern Arizona, and Colgate. Meanwhile, Jackson State is just behind Mercer at No. 21 and Harvard at No. 22, while also jumping ahead of Campbell and Southern Illinois.
