BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has announced the appointment of Brodderick Tucker as its Assistant Commissioner for Compliance and Administration. Tucker joins after serving as the Director of Athletics at Bluefield State University during the 2025-26 year.

“We’re extremely pleased to welcome Brodderick Tucker to the Southwestern Athletic Conference,” said SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland. “His extensive background in compliance, administration and student-athlete development, combined with his familiarity with our Conference and member institutions, will make him an immediate asset to our office. Brodderick has demonstrated a consistent commitment to integrity, accountability and student-athlete success throughout his career, and we look forward to the leadership and expertise he will bring to the SWAC.”

With over a decade of experience in sports administration, Brodderick Tucker has built a career defined by consistent success, academic excellence, and deep commitment to student-athlete development. During his tenure at Bluefield State University, Tucker provided leadership during a period of significant growth, elevating the academic profile of the department with overall student-athlete cumulative GPA increasing from 2.9 to 3.1. The department also produced 55 student-athlete graduates while 31 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA, 64 earned President’s list recognition and 110 earned Dean’s list recognition.

Tucker’s leadership extends with notable success across multiple programs including Men’s Golf capturing the CIAA Northern Division Championship with Freddie Timmis earning CIAA Player and Rookie of the Year honors along with Sam Berry being named CIAA Coach of the Year. Under his leadership, the Softball program produced a historic season, highlighting their first undefeated home season and first CIAA Tournament appearance, with CIAA Player of the Year and Coach of the Year Honors. Football produced six all-CIAA selections while Track & Field’s Darius Brown earned CIAA Field Athlete of the Year recognition.

Women’s Volleyball delivered a strong 2025-26 campaign under first year head coach Keyonna Morrow, going 12-5 in CIAA play along with advancing to the CIAA Volleyball Championship quarterfinals. Men’s Basketball remained a competitive program in the CIAA as the program had one of the strongest seasons in recent Bluefield State history, advancing to the CIAA Championship game and the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. As Tucker used his leadership with overseeing the department, he made an emphasis on accountability, honest assessment, and positioning each program for future improvement.
 
Beyond competition, Tucker prioritized revenue generation, fundraising, attendance, community engagement, and the overall gameday experience. During the Fall 2025 season, Bluefield State increased athletics revenue and attendance, while launching initiatives designed to strengthen the connection between university, athletics, alumni, students, and the community. The Athletics’ inaugural day of giving generated $115,000 in support of the student-athletes and athletic programs.

Tucker also helped establish a strategic partnership with the Big Blue Market, led by Bluefield State alumnus Travis Perkins, to create themed events, promotions, community engagement opportunities, and a more energetic gameday experience. Extending past the wins, championships and financial growth, Tucker’s tenure highlighted student-athlete development, academic achievement, and the overall student-athlete experience while helping establish a foundation centered on Commitment, Character, and Community. Tucker helped position Bluefield State Athletics for continued growth and greater visibility within NCAA Division II and the CIAA.

Brodderick Tucker is no stranger to the SWAC as prior to his appointment at Bluefield State, Tucker served at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff from 2021 to 2025, developing a strong record of academic achievement, compliance reform, and innovation.

He joined the athletic department in June 2021 as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services and was promoted to Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services, becoming a member of the Athletics Senior Leadership Team. Tucker oversaw compliance, eligibility, student-athlete services, academic success, NIL initiatives and student-athlete development. During his tenure, Tucker played a key role in helping UAPB transition out a seven-year NCAA suspension strengthening compliance policies and procedures along with implementing systems to reduce the risk of future violations.

As a leader in emerging areas of collegiate athletics, Tucker created UAPB’s NILions program, establishing resources and educational opportunities for student-athletes navigating Name, Image, and Likeness. He also helped facilitate partnerships with companies such as NOCAP Sports and Influxer, providing student-athletes with additional avenues to develop and monetize their NIL.

Tucker previously served at his alma mater, Grambling State University, in multiple leadership roles including Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Enhancement from 2019 to 2020, where he implemented a comprehensive student-athlete development program. Tucker also served as the Compliance and Academic Enhancement Coordinator from 2016 to 2019.

His journey in athletics administration began as a graduate assistant for Compliance in 2014 until 2016 under Dr. Patricia Simmons. Before entering athletics, Tucker began his professional career as a Scout Executive with the Louisiana Purchase Council, overseeing programs and fundraising across nine parishes in the Louisiana Delta. He later returned to Grambling State to pursue graduate studies and fully transition into athletics administration.

A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Tucker earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2011 and a Master of Science in Sport Administration, both from Grambling State.
